Frankfurt vs Arsenal
Europa League Group F
5:55pm Thursday 19th September
Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Adi Hutter insists that his side can’t read a lot into the second-half capitulation at Watford of Arsenal .
After blowing off a two-goal half-time guide since they conceded 31 shots the Gunners were held.
They now travel to Germany to confront Eintracht as the two sides meet in their opening Europa League Group F battle.
Eintracht, who lost at the semi-finals of final year’s contest on penalties to Chelsea ahead of the Blues went on to beat Arsenal in the closing, will be eager to show they could compete despite a summer of change.
Sebastien Haller, attacking trio Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic accounted for 56 of those 90 goals scored last year but all were marketed during the summertime.
But Hutter believes his side could continue to build where they left off if he doesn’t expect Arsenal to be as bad as they were in the weekend.
«I watched the game against Watford,» he explained. «They have been lucky to haven’t lost after a 2-0 lead. I would not tie it and everything together. They try to play soccer.
«Their philosophy is clearly recognisable and I assume they will perform accordingly.
«On the flip side, we need a very clear plan and we have the options and the resources.»
Hutter also surrendered that expectancy has developed after an abrupt jog to the previous four of those Europa League but considers everyone at the club stays grounded.
«Certainly the expectations have improved,» he added.
«The last season was exceptional with the semi-final and a total of 14 games. The bar is high, but we remain modest and still want to get as far as you can.
«Because of our accomplishments and the fact that we nearly reached the closing we are perceived differently.»
Eintracht are with no Mijat Gacinovic, who was injured in training last week, even while former Swansea City player Jonathan de Guzman misses out because of a muscular issue.
Marco Russ is ruled out whereas Goncalo Paciencia and Sebastian Rode are equally doubts after an Achilles tendon ruptured.
Arsenal don’t have any fresh injury concerns as they bid to get back to winning ways.
Alexandre Lacazette is among the absentees that are key, using the Frenchman ruled out for a few months after picking up a knee injury prior to the new global break.
Hector Bellerin, dinos Mavropanos and Kieran Tierney are back in training with the squad but are not yet ready to come back to Unai Emery’s matchday squad.
This is going to be the first competitive meeting involving Arsenal and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Eintracht three meetings with Language opponents have finished level, together with the side drawing 1-1 with Chelsea in the two legs of the Europa League semi-final of past season, before being eliminated on penalties.
Arsenal have dropped their last four off European games against competitors that were German, scoring twice and conceding 13.
In Champions League and Europa League united, Arsenal haven’t been removed at the group stage since the 1999-00 Champions League.
Including qualifiers, Eintracht Frankfurt are unbeaten in their last 16 home games from European competitors (W12 D4), since a 1-2 defeat against Palermo from the 2006-07 UEFA Cup.
God only knows what defence Unai Emery can pick. I really don’t know how often we’ll have to state it. They are good as would be the youngsters, going forward. The balance from midfield front isn’t bad but it’s frightening how awful Arsenal are.
What’s the allure to Sokratis Papastathopoulos? Whether Hector Bellerin could begin 15, I would play with Kieran Tierney on Thursday and see. Regarding Sunday’s match against Watford, if you see David Luiz giving directions to go, you know that you are in trouble.
Konstantinos Mavropanos remains game time off from being healthy. It’d be the conclusion when Shkodran Mustafi was to be brought backagain. We need to have Rob Holding, Bellerin and Tierney back to the side. I would take a hit and play these players to provide them game time and allow them to get fit fitness.
Nicolas Pepe was horrible contrary to Watford. How Emery took Mesut Ozil along with Dani Ceballos off before him was past me. It’s starting to effect a number of the other players that are young and Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Reiss Nelson and could not keep the ball and Joe Willock came on.
It’s the responsibility of the manager. He must resolve this and come to some conclusion about the best way to sort out this. Tierney, Bellerin, and Holding should play — I’d play them and have a beat when it meant they have the game time that they desired.
