Ralph Hasenhuttl: From youth league to Premier League with Southampton

It has been a long road to the Premier League to Get Ralph Hasenhuttl.

He rose through the ranks in Germany — training at all three leagues — before landing a dream move to Southampton after starting his career as childhood trainer in SpVgg Unterhaching.
The first caught the attention as he turned round the fortunes of Ingolstadt 04, taking them into Germanys leading airport for the very first time in their history in the base of Bundesliga 2.
His next challenge was top RB Leipzig that is newly-promoted into a second-place end within their Bundesliga season, securing them a spot in the Champions League. They finished third in a group that comprised Porto, Besiktas and Monaco in which Marseille beat in the quarter-finals them.
These are just a few of the victories Hasenhuttl has experienced as a manager and he is looking for something similar at Southampton, where hes currently using all of his previous experience to succeed at the Premier League.
Sitting at the comfort of Southamptons modern training ground to the outskirts of the city, a relaxed Hasenhuttl tells Sky Sports:Every step I have taken so far was important for my own development as a coach and a manager because I believe if you understand that your work in the fundamentals, it assists you massively whenever youre at the highest level because every mistake you make there could make a major impact in your performance.
I am very grateful that I got the chance to go through all of my measures, in the youth up into the third, second and first league in Germany and now the Premier League. It if you would like to have development as a supervisor.
As a manager, both promotions were quite important, the very first with Aalen (from Bundesliga 3 into Bundesliga two ) and the second with Ingolstadt into the Bundesliga, that was possibly the greatest success.
Also reaching the Champions League at the first season at Leipzig, that was a very major step in my career, but being a director in the Premier League would be the best its possible to reach. Because it was the next step, I really wanted to proceed.
He was realising a fantasy, when Hasenhuttl was given the opportunity to come with Southampton at December 2018.
It is the best league in the world, you have Champions League matches 12 times throughout the entire year if you like, since we play with six teams that are in Europe so it is something of a dream. I wished to come here as a participant but I wasnt fine enough, I think, but to do it because a supervisor is much more incredible for me and I am very happy that Ive got the opportunity to show up here.
Southampton were languishing in 18th if Hasenhuttl arrived season, facing a fall back into the Sky Bet Championship after six years, with Mark Hughes struggling to make an impact and the likes of Mauricio Pellegrino. But it was a situation that Hasenhuttl was well-equipped to manage, and deciding on another team in a situation wasnt just a coincidence.
It seems like it is something I really like because you can have a big influence in such a club, he clarifies. Youre bringing your doctrine, your work ethic and your mentality, then you can obtain a direct outcome. What I see today is were thinking we are going to win and I truly love to go this way.
I also managed in the Champions League and it is maybe another goal youve got there, you need to win each match and this, you really do want to win every game, but we know it will not happen because we are not one of those large clubs in England. Well make developing measures, small ones but do this consistently.
Its tricky without making the links to Liverpool boss Jurgen 19, to talk about Hasenhuttl as a manager. The two have similar styles of play, having analyzed the identical course for their coaching badges, and would be the exact same era — 52.
However, what does Hasenhuttl think his football philosophy consists of?
I think that its a really active one, an extremely intense one and a sport that fits perfectly from the Premier League, he reflects. We are extremely front-foot defending, aggressive on the leap, we try to consider early, win balls early, we do not remain long in possession, we attempt to play score and deep.
We must be organised in the Premier League because the groups are so powerful here and they will kill you if youre not organised, and this is the reason we work a lot in being the perfect form and understanding when we need to strike.
I believe it is something weve developed so far and we havent had too many clean sheets but if we do, its quite great defensive work by many gamers.
I think its very great to see if we perform, if youd like a good sign in my perspective, its every time that my teams are playing football, you are able to immediately see it is a staff from me and this is precisely what I really wish to show.
Ten months to his time in Southampton, and Hasenhuttl is still learning about the intricacies of the Premier League, but he has changed a lot at the club.
One thing I have learnt is that the various varieties of soccer from different directors from all over the world, he said. It is just like a place here where all comes together in the maximum level, so if you want to execute here you need to be ready for each shape, each style of football and this is quite interesting to me personally.
I like to push each button that is crucial to push. Weve changed our behavior together, our shape, the way of playing soccer. We changed the level of the training session and in the squad, we shifted it a bit.
We brought some fresh players in having a great mindset and, meanwhile, weve got a great personality in the group and we are in a good way. It is tough in the Premier League and I need to be prosperous. Youve got to take points always and you constantly have competitions where its hard to take things .
Southampton have taken seven points in their seven Premier League matches so far and welcome Chelsea on Sunday, live on Sky Sports, in search of their first win as the middle of April in St Marys.
I believe we had a very challenging schedule in the beginning Liverpool and Man Utd at home with one point, Hasenhuttl clarified. We could have had more but contrary to Liverpool, we needed a huge opportunity to have a point but we did not. The home game against Bournemouth was the easiest one from the four home games however you see that it isnt easy to win a game in your home.
It might help us if we graduated a little bit sooner, that is what we would like to do however then, you should be quite good and committed for 90 minutes and we understand that we are able to win games in your home.
Frank Lampard is doing a very good job. Its not easy to visit Chelsea the pressure with all you need to form a new team with players but hes a great deal of quality in their own group. Theyve shown they can do very well.
Im expecting an intense game, an open sport and a match with a great deal of good chances for either side. I think both teams are currently playing forward and I believe it will be interesting. If you want to win a match against the massive top six, then you must have a fantastic performance and its time to demonstrate that at home
So what is next in the master plan what should they be aiming for his tutelage and for Southampton of Hasenhuttl?
Our primary goal is not to be in the relegation zone, to come out from there and try to make the next step of growth, the Austrian concluded.
We all know the options with the possibilities weve financially are not the greatest ones so we have to make modest steps since we must build players to get much better. For this, we want time and that also I think we have demonstrated we will get better and better and we have the players to produce the step.
We have talked about a period that we want and sure, at once, the top half of the table would be our goal. That is something that I need to do but when we do better, even if we create this group better, then theres absolutely an opportunity to come from position nine to six or seven.
